Something New!!

Good Morning Crafters!

Due to my exams I am not able to blog or craft much. Just had a paper this Sunday. So to give my self a small break, crafted few cards.

Before coming to the cards I would like to thank  Lisa, Jo , Pooja Preety and Lorraine  for joining me. Your appreciation really means a lot to me.

This post includes two cards in which I have experimented with something that I have never used before..

First Card:
I made this card using Acetate sheet..
Here is the card..

Based on "The Solid Mandala" by Australian writer Patrick White. The two halves represents the two antagonist but still mutually dependant brothers of the story.

Masculine Birthday Card with Bokeh Technique Tutorial

Good afternoon everyone!

Thank you for leaving such lovely comments on my Tag Birthday Card. They really made my day.

Yesterday was my lucky day because 4 new friends joined my blog. I would love to thank Liz, Seema, Lavina and Patti for the appreciation.

Today's card is also a Birthday Card using Bokeh Technique. The only difference being that I have tried to make it a bit musculine( hope i am successful) and it is nearly CAS. Here is a sneak peak...
Birthday Card

I have made this card for my elder Brother. His 31st Birthday is coming..so this is gonna be his birthday present as I am jobless right now ;P .

And I am also attaching a tutorial on Bokeh Technique. Hoping it will entice you towards trying it..

I am CASing this sketch..

So to make this card I first created a Bokeh bg(tute towards the end). Then took a white sheet and did some embossing. To make the embossed corners I used metal scale and for embossing dots I used a homemade embossing page using "bindis"  ("desi jugaad"-will attach a pic). Then glued the bokeh bg to the sheet and attached a corrugated horizontal sheet over them. Added quilled hat and moustache to give it a musculine look. Finally attached hand-written sentiment over the corrugated sheet.

Here is the final card..

BOKEH TECHNIQUE-Tutorial

Step 1:Attach the watercolor paper to a hard surface using painters tape , so that when you add water the paper doesn't curl.
Bokeh Technique

Step 2: Brush a layer of water over the paper so that when you add colors they clend together easily. Keep in mind that the paper gets wet but not too wet. If the paper gets dry you can also brush some water in between.
Bokeh Technique

Step 3:Add watercolors randomly to the paper and blend them. Try using colors that blend together easily like red and yellow or green and blue. If you find a concentrated patch anywhere you can spray some water with the brush and sponge with a dry clothe.
Bokeh Technique

Step 4: Let it dry. Meanwhile prepare a stencil having three circles of different sizes( if you have stencil like that, no need to worry). You can use acetate sheet and circle punches of 3 different radii. I didn't even have that, so I drew such circles using different caps on a plastic sheet and cut it out. While making the circles make sure they are away from margin as well as from each other.
Bokeh Technique

Step 5:Through the biggest circle apply white paint ok the watercolored paper. You can use sponge for this. But I prefer my finger. Make a few biggest and then bigger circles. While making the smaller ones use a bit concentrated paint so that they appear shining among the bigger ones.
Don't worry about overlapping.
Bokeh Technique

Step 6: Allow it to dry and use it as a bg for your next creation.

Tag Birthday Card!

Good Afternoon !!

I hope you enjoyed my Chocolate treats.

I am back again with a BIRTHDAY TAG-CARD. Here is a sneak peek..
Tag Birthday Card

It is a birthday card made for a very special friend of mine 'Divya'. We are college buddies and since our college ended February, 2016, we won't be together on her birthday for the first time in 6 years. So I made a card for her, which I am gonna post soon(as she is from J&K). Miss you Dibdi...

Coming to the card, I have used a new technique here known as BOKEH TECHNIQUE. I came to know about it while participating in happily ever crafter's crafty quiz. I am always afraid of using watercolors as they do not blend for me. But this one is really simple and the results are really pretty.
All the elements in this card have been upcycled except for the paper and the water colors.

Firstly, I took a white cardstock and colored it with Bokeh Technique. Then i made the tag again using corrugated sheet from packaging boxes( I just love their texture..after using them for my Friendship shaker tag). For the bg of the tag I used an old gift wrap. To tone down the color I glued an old slightly opaque polythene (tried gesso but it didn't give the desired results). Added a handmade flower and a few leaves( cut out from a magazine). Then used an old net to make a half bow like shape. Added a hand written sentiment with sparkling edge. In place of ribbon in the tag I have used threads (from an old Rakhi). Then attached the tag to the card and embellished it with pearls (from an old garland) and blings (from wedding cards). Finally added some faux stitches. And Tada!! The card is ready.

Tag Birthday Card

I didn't take step by step pics as I wasn't sure how it was gonna turn out.
But here are some more shots.

Sliding Cake Card

Good afternoon Guys!

Thanks for your lovely comments on My last creation.

Now coming to this project.

I made this bithday card for a friend of mine.

Interactive sliding cake card

For this I took a red cardstock and folded it. Then I added a brown and a white sheet over. Added some punched out flowers and quilled fringed flowers to decorate it. Then placed  a quilled bunny holding balloons (isn't it cute!). The balloons have been made using circular stencil(home made) and acrylic paint.

On the inside I added a cake with sliding mechanism. For this I followed Dr. Sonia's Sliding Cake Card Tutorial .To give the cake a "black forest" look I added brown scrolls.I put a candle on the top. Finally completed the cake by decorating it with lace, flowers and pearls. The cake was then attached to the red cardstock. Behind the cake I glued a strip to limit the extent the flap opens. Above the strip I put a quilled flame and on strip I added a label "Light the candle". When the candle is pulled towards the flame all the layers of card open up. It can be held in this position by a double sided foam tape that has been placed behind the candle. I tried many pop up mechanisms. Finally this worked☺.

To complete the card I added a hand written sentiment at the bottom part of the card.

Here is the FINAL CARD..

Happy Birthday!!

Good evening guys!
And welcome to my second post!

Hope you are enjoying the monsoon.

My mom's birthday is just around the corner. So i decided to make an EASEL CARD.

Fo this, first i cut the white circular base with craft scissors and wound a pink thread around to create a pattern to give it a framey-look (was fun). Then I quilled the flowers, leaves and the butterfly and arranged them on the circular white sheet.
Four lotus flowers have been imprinted on the orange square card using a stencil(only one that i had) and acrylic paint. Few circular quilled strips are placed under the white sheet to give it a raised effect(not appreciable in the pictures though). Then, I added a light green chartpaper on the back and glued lace all around it...Finally attached the work to the blue base to complete the easel card and added the hand written sentiments.

Here is the FINAL CARD.
